JUDGING STOCK.
Judging stock at agricultural shows is a topic which has of late been widely discussed in Victoria. The latest propositions are-—l. Let the Sanquhar principle be adopted—viz., the decisions to be left in the hands of one professional judge judiciously selected by the votes of the committee, a hinn of established qualifications and integrity. 2. Let it be a sine qua non that the Judge resides out of the district where the show is held. 3. This judge is to be allowed a couple of experienced friends to assist him with their opinion when consulted, but the one judge proper to be responsible only for all decisions. 4. The name of such appointed judge to be duly advertised some lime before the show. 5. That the judge and his assistants be well remunerated. 6. That all horses be professionally examined, and any unsound ones disqualified from competing. Professional examination, as suggested, is the rule in nearly all English societies. The difficulty in Australia would be, atieast at present, to obtain qualified veterinarians to do such work.
