Fatal Accident to Mr G. Derrett.

The following particulars are telegraphed from Oamam by the Press Association;—

Oamaru, 21st. —As Mr Derrett* purser of the steamer Grafton, was standing talking near the wharf, three trucks ran off the line used by the contractors for the Mole. One of the trucks struck the unfortunate young man and precipitated him over an embankment on to the rocks below, a distance of 20ft. His skull is badly fractured, with the brain protruding. He was at once taken to the hospital. Later.—Mr Derret died in the hospital on Saturday morning from injuries received at the harbor works on Wednesday. Wellington, 24th.—The flags on the shipping in harbour to-day wore flying at half-mast, as a mark of respect to Mr Derrett, late purser of the steamer Grafton, who met his death through an accident on Wednesday last.
