Outrages and Compensation.
London, 21st.—In the House of Commons Inst night, the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs stated that the Government would require full reparation from the Khedive for the outrages committed upon British subjects during the recent riot at Alexandria.
“ Cloture ” Abandoned. London, 21st. The Right Hon, W. E. Gladstone announced, with reference to his motions for reform of Parliamentary procedure, that it would be impossible, owing to the pressure of business, to carry out the proposals of the Government during the present session, but the subject would be again introduced next year. It is expected that an autumn session of Parliament will be held. COLONIAL PRODUCE,
Melbourne, 21st.—-Malting barley is quiet, and prices are unchanged at 5s 3d to 5s sd. The market for New Zealand bats is dull*, feeding sorts remain at 4s Id to 4s 3d; milling oats have advanced Id, and are now quoted 4s 3d. Australian Cricket in England. London,; 21st.—The match at Seffield between the Australians and eleven of Yorkshire was concluded to-day. The visitors, who at the close of yesterday’s play had put together 25 runs for the loss of no wickets, resumed the batting, and succeeded in making the required number of runs, 99, for four wickets only; thus winning the match by; six wickets. The principal scorers were— Massie, caught, 44; and Bannerman, caught, 36. LONDON~MARKETS. The New Zealand. L. and M. Agency report under date London, June 20th : Wool : Home and 'German demand is good, but from other quarters the demand is poor ; coarse greasy cross-breds are easier ; up to date 245,000 bales have been sold ; sale programme has been curtailed by four days. The wheat market is dull ; Adelaide is worth 52s per 4961b, New Zealand 50s per 4961b. The tallow market is firm ; best mutton is worth £44 per ton, best beef £43 10s per ton. The leather market is firm ; best sides are worth lid. Wool Sale. London, 21st.~At the wool sale today the bidding was steady but demand not active. Eight thousand one hundred bales were offered. Withdrawing a Budget! • Melbourne, 21st.—-In the Legislative Assembly p last night Sir Bryan O’Loghlen, with the consent of Mr Francis, announced , that the Government had decided to abandon the proposed remission of duty on tea and tobacco ; that the question .of reducing the inland postage fate would be postponed for a year, and that the proposal to reduce excise on beer would be allowed to lapse.
■' FLEEING FROM EGYPT. London, 22nd.—Telegrams are to hand announcing that large numbers of European refugees from Egypt are daily reaching Malta and Cyprus. The arrivals already number several thousands, most of whom are utterly destitute.
