W. Williams's Affairs.
The examination of Mr W. Williams at the New Plymouth District Court, was continued on Friday and Monday, respecting the transfer of property to his sons. The Herald reports as follows: The debtor stated that he negotiated for the Government the purchase of a block of land from the natives, and be became liable to his sons and other? for about £6,000 for goods, etc., advanced to the natives on account of the purchase. The Government Agent (Mr Gillon) paid the natives a cheque for £5,411. The natives gave him the cheque to get cashed, but he heard they were going to muru the money if he returned it to them; so as they had approved of the accounts he had against them, he kept the money. He afterwards paid the money away to his sons, himself, and others in liquidation of the accounts due by the natives, for which he bad rendered himself responsible. Out of the £5,400, he paid his sons £1,500 ; and after he had paid the other claims there was still a sum £I,BOO due by the natives. The total claim of his sons against him on account of natives was £3422 12s. He paid them £1,500, and transferred property of the value of £1,922 12s to them. [lt was this transfer by the debtor to his sons which Mr North is trying to upset].
