THE Capacity of the Soil in this District for the growth of English Flax, and the large annual importation of Oil and Twine, have long pointed to the possibility of developing a new and lucrative industry in New Zealand. After various experiments on the growth of Flax in this District, and after careful enquiry into the cost of manufacturing Linseed Oil, Oil Cake, Flax Fibre, Eope, and Twine in New Zealand, practical men have become convinced (on comparing the cost of production with the market price of the imported articles) that the manufacture of such articles in the colony would be an •xceeedingly profitable undertaking. They also see clearly that the development of such an industry would be of great benefit to Farmers, inasmuch as it would enable them to grow a new crop, with an assured market at their doors.
