TE WHITI AND TOHU.

The Native Minister has received a telegram announcing the arrival of Te Whiti and Tohn at Dnnedin, in charge of Mr Butler, Interpreter, who reports that he feels convinced, after many conversations with Te Whiti, that his belief that supernatural interference will take place on behalf of bis people is the only obstacle to bis accepting at once the lands reserved for him and his people. This belief has ’so worked on Te Whiti that it now amounts to an absolute conviction, which can only be removed by complete isolation from his people. Te Whiti and Tohu have been taken to Queenston, on Lake Wakatipu, to the Blnff, Port Chalmers, the Otago Heads, and other places, and altogether Te Whiti’s trip seems to have produced a wonderful improvement in him, and he now begins to talk rationally about his people, his land, arid the liberal offers made to him by the Government. The correspondent of the Auckland Herald further says he hears, on reliable authority, that Mr Bryce has ordered the interpreter in charge ofTe Whiti and Tohn to remain with the two chiefs in the South Island for several weeks yet. In the meantime the Government will be able to pass their West Coast Bills, and hon. members will then have the pleasure of seeing the famous prophet of Parihaka, who has given so much trouble, and caused an enormous expenditure of public money for years past, and who has been the principal subject of debate in Parliament since the beginning of the session.
