THE Capacity of the Soil in this District for the growth of English Flax, and the large annual importation of Oil and Twine, have long pointed to the possibility of developing a new and lucrative industry in New Zealand. After various experiments on the growth of Flax in this District, and after careful enquiry into the cost of manufacturing Linseed Oil, Oil Cake, Flax Fibre, Rope, and Twine in New Zealand, practical men have become convinced (on comparing the cost of production with the market price of the imported articles) that the manufacture of such articles in the colony would be an exceeedingly profitable undertaking. They also see clearly that the development of such an industry would be of great, benefit to Farmers, inasmuch as it would enable them to grow a new crop, with an assured market at their doors. The Patea Farmers’ Club, having taken up. the matter, appointed a Committee to collect the information on the subject necessary to make an exhaustive report. At a public meeting called by the Club, to consider the Committee’s report, it was resolved to float a Company for the above' purpose. The Committee’s report, together with a full record of the proceedings of that meeting, was published in the Patea Mail and j Evening News of the 15th May, 1882. If the Company should not be formed within six months, the deposits will be returned to applicants, less a proportion of the amount sufficient to cover preliminary expenses, such expenses not to exceed £lO. Prospectuses and Forms of Application for Shares may be obtained from the Secretary, Patea, or from any of the Branches of the Bank of Australasia. Share List will close on the 30th June next. W.
