The Financial Statement is to be delivered to-morrow evening. Major Atkinson has a pleasing story to tell of reviving prosperity and increasing revenue ; of the railway profits rising to 4 per cent. ; and imports greatly exceeding the estimated figures. He has a surplus, and some remissions of taxation can be made. Between the property tax and the beer tax there will be much clamoring. One important part of the budget speech will be a%proppsal for another loan—probably three millions. Mr Cowern’s usual monthly stock sale takes place on Wednesday at Patea. The entries are numerous.
