Councillor Yorke drew attention to the bad quality of gravel put on Tongahoe hill. Other councillors said they had remarked it, and thought the quality too bad. It was resolved to bring the matter under the notice of the Hawera Road Board, and that in future broken metal be used if good gravel is not obtainable. Complaints were also made as to the quality of gravel sent down by rail. Most of it was admitted to be very good, though “ stoney,” and it was thought a little supervision would be desirable. Councillor Livingston drew attention to the manner in which gravel-pits are stripped, saying that the same stripping had to be shifted several times.
It was resolved that a clause to prevent this be inserted in future specifications. On Good Behavior.
Councillor Partridge moved, “ That Messrs Livingstone, Yorke, and the mover be a committee to compile bye-laws for conduct of business of the Council.”
