CIRCULATION OF NEWSPAPERS
The Press of Great Britain is represented by 4,082 journals, their yearly product being 2,262,454,134 copies. The newspapers of Great Britain issue a larger number of copies per annum, in proportion to.population, than any other country in the world—viz, 64 copies to each inhabitant. The rate of Scotland is 62.50» Ireland, 24.33 ; Wales, 27 ; and England (exclusive of London), 40.60. London produces 1,962 journals, against 587 published in New York City. Of the metropolitan dailies, the Daily Telegrayh heads the list with 250,000 ; the Standard (two issues) has 192,000 ; the Daily News, 160.000 ; the Echo (evening), 115,000; the Chronicle , 120,000; the Times , 100,000, Of the weeklies Lloyd's is more than double '•any of his contemporaries, having the enormous issue of 613,000; the Police News, Reynold's Weekly, and the Sportsman have 300,000 each ; the Christian Herald , 230,000; the Despatch , 220,000; the Weekly Times and Family Herald, 200.000 each; the Penny Illustrated , 150,000; the Referee , 120,009; and the two great illustrateds —the News and Graphic —loo,ooo each.
