Agricultural Society.

The committee of the Pates A. and P. Association met on Friday, preparatory to the annual general meeting. Mr Chapman presided, and there were present Messrs J. Gibson, R. B. Hamilton, W. C. Symes, Pearce, Honeyfield, W. Gower, 0. F. Barker, and J. Morton.

Mr J. Davidson, Hawera, sent subscription and said he must discontinue unless the society’s shows were made moveable, and held at different parts of the district in succession, or at a central place like Manutahi. Tbe Secretary was instructed to write inviting him to attend the annual meeting and moot the question.

Many subscribers being in arrear, the Secretary was instructed to “draw ” on them, and to sue if the draft failed. Mr Peacock wrote again about prize money in arrear, £36 14, and he was asked to wait until the society’s funds will enable the amonnt to be paid. The lessee of the society’s paddock at Kakaratnea being in arrear, the Secretary was, directed to sue him for rent doe.

Accounts to the amount of £39 10s 4d were passed for payment as soon as funds are available.

The President, Secretary, and Treasurer were appointed to draw up a code of rules, and an annual report to submit to the meeting (fixed for May 31st). A statement of accounts read by the Treasurer showed that over 100 members are in arrear with subscription. The liabilities overdraft) were £l6B 38s 3d ; and if all arrears were got in, the society would be almost free from debt. ; The society has reduced the liabilities during the past year by about £4O, showing an improving position.

The last annual show cleared all expenses. Receipts from the show (including entrance fees owing) were £BB 15s 7d.

It is to be regretted that so many subscribers need dunning for the annual fee to support a useful local society. The date of annual meeting is advertised, and any changes that will benefit the district or improve the society can be there advocated. ’
