Parliament will meet to-morrow for despatch of business. Tiijnaru -harbor is on its trial, hnd is proving a death-trap for ships in rough weather. Two ships were wrecked in Sunday’s gale, the cables breaking in the heaving swell of the sea. As to the previous wreck, inquiry shows that the barque Duke of Sutherland, wrecked by striking the ground in the harbor, during a gale, was not sound, some of her timbers being rotten. The Homeward ’Frisco mail closes tomorrow in this district, the Patea box closing at 7 p.m. Steam-shipping has been profitable at Auckland lately. The newly formed Northern . Company. made a profit of £8,550 in the last twelve months, and will extend its operations by increasing its fleet to nine steamers.

The Queen shows herself with less reserve in Scotland and on the Continent than she does tfrthe English - people. This is the complaint made at Home during they Queen’s 7 recent visit ’to Mentone) where she drove about with much more freedom than is her Majesty’s habit in England. There is this difference. The Queen does drive about pretty often at Windsor and in Lohdbn during* the “ season,- hut)is rarely seen in the English provincial towns. Such reserve is a mistake.
