THE MOKAU COUNTRY.
; By degrees (says the Auckland correspondent of the Otago Times) a large amount of valuable information is being collected relative to the country dying between To Awamutu and New Plymouth, with a view of getting the northern, trunk line, of railway put through. The other day I had the pleasure ’of examining a sketch map made by? a gentleman who has lived for years m the northern country, showing the natural features of the country, geological formation' minerals, &c. It is now .pretty clearly ascertained that gold, coal, lime, iron, and cement are to be found in the Mokau country. A specimen of the gold was shown me by a prospector, while the coal crops out in the face of the cliffs, of the Mokau river, being discernible by travellers as they pass up and down the navigation in boats. Mr Govett and the member of the Alpine Club who accompanied him on a . late trip front Taranaki to Te Awamutu, also succeeded, in adding a valuable chapter to the informatibn already obtained, but for obvious reasons their observations have not been published;
