HAWERA.
(FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.) . The cricket match between the Hawera 2nd Eleven and Manutahi came off on Saturday, and despite the bad weather, one innings on each side was played, resulting, in favor of Hawera by 5 runs. Score—Hawera ... . ... 53 Manutahi... ... ... 48 For the Haweras C. Kanson played a very good innings of 20 not out, and for the Manutahis Newton bowled very well, and Whittem made 20 by very fair play. What with the Supreme Court sittings in New Plymouth and the first of the shooting season, Hawera is left comparatively speaking empty. About 100‘ people left for New Plymouth on Saturday and Monday as witnesses in the different cases-. Reports are to hand that the gravel pit that was to supply the borough is filled with water, so there will be some little delay in supplying gravel for a few days. The coach running between New Plymouth and Opunaki was temporarily incon veninced by the flooded state of the unbridged rivers, and was unable to pass through. A temporary bridge was however thrown over the worst of the crossings on Monday, by a working party of the A.O. Force, and the coach arrived at Opunaki in the evening as usual.
