Hawera County Council.
(FR 0 M 0 U R CO ERE BP GNU B N T.) The Council met on Monday. Present, Councillors, Hunter (chairman), Partridge, York, Inkster, and Finlayson. Race-course ReserveCouncillor York moved and Councillor Inkster seconded : That the Chairman write to the-Oolonial Secretary asking that the Mokoia Racecourse Reserve be handed over do the Hawera County that this Council be authorised and disburse all rents payable under lease entered into, by Patea County Council. Carried. Dangerous Place. Councillor Partridge stated that there was a very dangerous place on the Tongahoe where the Road Board had been taking gravel. He would propose that the Road Board put up a substantial fence for the safety of the public. Carried. Councillor Partridge also complained of the gravel on the' Tongaboe as being too large. Referred to the Road Board, Asking Grants for Mountain Road. Councillor Inkster moved and Councillor Finlayson seconded : That the Clerk write to the district member and ask him to use his interest.,in obtaining a grant of £2OO for gravelling the Mountain Road from Normanby to Te Rota, and a sum of £I6OO for bridges and. metalling the road from Normanby to Manaia. Councillor Inkster ; I do. Councillor Yorko thought as they were separate work, that it ought to bo done in .two resolutions. ■ Resolutions amended and carried. Maori Dogs—Killing ’em off. Councillor Partridge wanted to know if any action was going to be taken against Maoris not registering their dogs. It was resolved to obtain the assistance of the Police with the sanction of the Native Minister, , . The Collector wanted to know if he would be allowed a shilling for all dogs he killed. ! It is was agreed that he should be ; allowed the extra shilling if he proved satisfactorily that the dogs were defunct. Normanby Claim for Revenue. ■A deputation consisting of Messrs Gibson and Quin waited on (he Council asking on behalf of the Normanby Town Board for-a share of the Dog Tax and- other Revenue, The Council voted the sum of £45. ... ... Manawapou Bridge! Councillor Yorke. wanted to know what the Manawappn bridge was to cost, as the Patefi Council had agreed to send up plans and ' specifications. for their approval. Chairman could not tell, and .Councillor thought it was uncourteous on the Patea Council’s part. Councillor Mnrchant.here put in appearance, and the Council adjourned for luncheon. ' Austin RoadResolved that the Hawera Road Board be told that the Council are in communication with the Member of the District with reference to getting Austin Road gravelled by the Government. ; Stratford BridgeCouncillor Marchant wanted a small amount voted for the approach to the Patea River Bridge at Stratford, as it was in a very dangerous state. Two-thirds of the cost, £B, was voted for the work, on condition that theNgaire Road Board contributed the balance. Hospital Patients. It was reported that two men, oho from Waimate and one from'Normanby, had been forwarded to the Hospital. After passing a few accounts, the meeting adjourned.
