Hawera Borough Council.

The Council met last evening, and the Clerk received the result of the poll in favor of (he borough loan of £5,000, namely—- ; For the loan ... ... 48 Against ... ... ... 7 Majority for ... 41 The Council then resolved to'call for tenders for carting gravel from the railway station. Tenders were accepted for formation of Wilson-slreet, Glover-road, and Victoria-street.
Out of 13 designs for the Borough Chambers, 5 were retained, and tenders will be called for the building at:once, and one will be accepted providing it is under the amount allowed, viz., £1,000,. The tenderers were : A. H, Riggs, Wellington ; J. H. Wright, Wanganui; W. .Pinches, Hawera ; ,J. Sanderson, New Plymouth.; and A. Taylor,
Councillor-Baker’s seat was declared void through non-attendance.
