London, 17th, President Arthur having urged upon the English Government the, consideration of farther affidavits which have been made in regard to sanity of l)r Larason, of Wimbledon, a murderer, .the. Home Secretary has granted a further, but in this case final, respite to Friday, the 28th histhnt. ' Mr Berry on Protection. Sydney, this day.—Mr Graham Berry, who, is now on a visit here, addressed a numerously attended meeting at the Masonic Hall last night. He took occasion lo defend the policy of protection pursued by Victoria; at same time be advocates a uniform intercolonial tariff with a view.to federation of the colonies.' Mr Berry was well received by tbe meeting, amongst those present being- Sir John Robertson, Acting Premier of New South Wales,. Major W. 0. Smith, and Mr Langridge, ex Minister of Mr Berry’s Cabinet.
