Colonial Wine Export.
London, 14th.—The Times refers to the fact of the great reduction which has been manifest during the past year in the sale of alcoholic liquors in Great Britain, and expresses an opinion that the falling off in the consumption ot spirits should greatly stimulate the sale of colonial wines in the English market. The Times concludes by urging Australian growers to push the sale of their wines in England with energy.
AMERICAN LEAGUERS IN IRELAND.
DEMAND FOR THEIR RELEASE ,
London, 17tb.—The American subjects who are imprisoned in Ireland as “ suspects ” for their connection with the Land League have refused the offer made to them by Ihe British Government, that they should be liberated on condition of quitting the United Kingdom. The United States Minister in London has since formally demanded of Government that the American prisoner* should be either brought to trial forthwith, or be released without condition.
