SUNDAY LABOR.

A batch of 17 laborers at Cogenhoe (Eng.) were summoned in December before the County Justices at Northampton for working on a preceding Sunday, The constable who found the defendants at work at the Cogenhoe iron works said they had told him that they were obliged to do it, as the “ governor ” told them the previous night that if they did not come that day they need, not come any more. The governor said that there had been a slip of the bank and that it was necessary to repair it to enable the contractors to fulfil their contract. The Bench were of the opinion that this was not a work-.of necessity, and that it did not affect the population at large, wherefore they fined the defendants 2s 6d each and costs.
