Prices in :the London wholesale meat.. --matirefc~ruled as follows during February:—Good English and Scotch beef in bodies, at 5s 4d per 8 pounds, equal to. 8d a pound ; mutton ditto in carcases, 6s 4d per 8 pounds, equal to a pound. The frozen meat from Australia per Cuzco, soiling during February, realised s£d and a pound. A later shipment, reported by cable, sold at a higher average ; some carcases in good condition as to packing realised 6d a pound. Taking the average of English fresh meat in February at 8£ a pound, and the average of frozen meat at s£d, there is a difference of 3d ■ a pound in 'favor of the cheaper colonial meat to recommend it to the market. An important change in the land policy of the King-Natives (mentioned in another column) may be expected to lead to an early settlement of the interior of the North Island. If this be a stroke of Mr Bryce’s policy, it is a good one ; but we believe it was initiated before lie resumed office. Still, it is the begining of a great work of settlement, in a district which seemed till recently to be sealed against European occupation.
