WOOL PROSPECTS.
The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency circular, dated London February 23, says :—The programme of the first series of sales, provides for 32 sittings, from 28th February to sth April inclusive. Arrivals during the past few days have considerably augmented the supply, and in all probability (he provisional limit of 300,000 bales will be reached in the course of a few hours. In the meantime the markets here and on the Continent present no features of interest beyond such as may result from the late financial disturbances in Paris, and the rise in the value of money in this country. Recent telegraphic advices from the Colonies report a falling off in the shipments from New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and New Zealand, from Ist October, 1881, to 16th February, 1882, of 35,000 bales, as compared with
thos - ' of tin', same period of the preceding clip. These figures do not include the shipments from Queensland, which, it is expected, will show some appreciable increase ; while the backwardness of the season may also account, possibly, for some proportion of the diminution. Even supposing, however, that the supplies for the year remain only stationary, an additional reason is furnished for the stability of current quotations.
