SIR H. PARSES m LONDON.
London, Ist. Sir Henry Parkes, Premier of New South Wales, was entertained at dinner to day by Lord Sherbrooke, formerly Mr Robert Lowe. Among the guests present were Mr Gladstone arid other distinguished statesmen.
Politics in England. Loudon, Ist.—An election to the vacancy in the representation of East Cornwall in the House of Commons took place to-day, and resulted in the return of Mr Acklandj a Liberal, by a majority of 200 over the Conservative candidate. \ Respite to Murderer. London, Ist.—Dr Lamson, who is under sentence of death for the murder oL his brother-in-law Percy. Malcolm John, at Wimbledon in December last, has been respited until the 18th inst. ' Nihilist .Murder. St. Petersburg, Ist.—Telegrams are to. hand from Odessa reporting that two murderers of General Strelnikow, public prosecutor, ha,ve been found guilty after a summary trial and were hanged to-day.
