HARBOR WORKS.
Two gentlemen of Hawke’s Bay. have recently visited Taranaki,, and while there inspected . the harbor works at New Plymouth. They state that £IOO,OOO have ' already been expended with the magnificent result of securing sheltered water of two inches depth at low water. The same Napier journal which so charitably alludes to Taranaki, folly in. an article on its ; own harbor doings admits that, after years of labor, the collective endeavours of the Napier harbor board, have only resulted in “ the construction of the abortive works,which we, have., now to show, for £75,000.’’ At the same time it strongly urges the: expenditure of a much greater; sum in further speculative harbor works for the port. ■ /; ■ ' ;
