Education Board Election.

The election for three seats on the Wanganui Education Board, caused by expiry of the term for holding office of Messrs Sanson, Fox, and Coutts, has resulted as under :

Inspection of Sheep.

The ram whidli arrived by the steamer Clyde on Sunday, was a pure stud Lincoln from Mr Fred. Sutton’s celebrated flock, imported by Mr C. F. Barker for Mr Sheild’s stud flock. The

difficulty Which arose as to' delivery conld not have occurred had the Government kept faith with Patea sheep owners by appointing an inspector for the district, or indeed if the captain of the steamer had been better acquainted with the Sheep Act. Though a clean certificate was given with the ram on its being taken aboard, and was of course with the ship’s papers, the captain was distinctly under the sheep would require to be again passed by an inspector before being landed at Patea; and for this reason, and being fearful|of metering at first declined to deliver the ram. ' This is one of many misunderstandings, and dlfficultiesj\vhic]i arise until sheep affairs are put on a better footing. Sheep are now continually passing through Patea overland and by sea.. With every prospect of a growing trade it is urgently desirable that a, sheep inspector untrammelled by control from Wanganui should be appointed for Patea district. This was promised when the Chief .Inspector Tor the colony made his~'visit,'but'h'aß’hot' been done. Flock-owners, all over.,the. district at£ wiping ‘4| pay£the s pric|joK superior stud sheep, being anxious to improve the quality of their flocks; but they are disinclined to undergo the worry or run the risk which now faces them, and which must continue until/ 3 * •} / ! £ satisfactory arrangements are made for sheep inspection by a resident inspector. Mr Barker, intends, again -to bring this matter under the attention of Government, and there is- little doubt but his efforts will meet the hearty approval of settlers.

Henry Sanson Sm William Fox 49 Donald Coutts ......... 29 D. H. Macarthur.......;. ...... 24 John Kockstrow W. H. Lash At meeting of the Board on Tuesday the chairman declared the three firstnamed duly elected.
