Banquet to Sir H. Parkes.
London, 22nd.—A ( grand banquet will be given in honour of Sir Henry Parkes, at the end of next month, in London, at which the, : Duke of Edinburgh will preside.
Mails in England. London, 22nd.—The homeward New Zealand and Australian mails, which left Auckland on the 31st January, via San Francisco, were delivered in London to-day. ~ ■
Egyptian Politics. Cairo, 23rd. —A political crisis is believed, to be imminent, and it is anticipated that Mahmoud Barondi Pasha will resign, and be succeeded by Arabi Pasha (leader Of national party and present Minister for War) as President of the Council of Ministers.
■ Cargo of Dynamite Seized. - Constantinople 7, i2,3rd. has reached here that a vessel containing a cargo of dynamite and gunpowder has been seized by the Russian authorities- at Kertcbj a seaport in the Crimea.
Across the Channel in a Balloon. London, 23rd.—Mr Burnaby yesterday ascended in the balloon “ Eclipse ” from the south coast of England, with the object of crossing the Channel to France. Telegrams are to hand this morning showing that.he* has been successful, the balloon having been sighted from Boulogne, off the French coast. Canadian Marriage Bill. Ottawa, 23rd.-—The Canadian House of Commons has passed a Bill legalising marriage with deceased wife’s sister.
