THE rate of Subscription to the Daily Mail will be reduced at the end of current quarter, thus : Subscribers who do not expressly order the Weekly Supplement wdll receive the Daily Mail at One Shilling a Quarter less than at present. Subscribers who wish for the Weekly Supplement should inform the Publisher at the Patea office. The Subscription for Daily Mail and Weekly Supplement, taken together, will be same as at present. This optional arrangement is intended to meet the convenience of those who do not particularly desire a weekly budget of literature in addition to the daily issue ; while many who prefer a good readable Supplement at week-ends can have it delivered with the paper. But it should be expressly ordered, to prevent mistake, before the April quarter begins.
Agricultural statistics collected by Mr Good, in the census district of Taranaki, during the month of February show that there are 860 holdings in the district. The total number of acres under crop (including sown grasses) is 66,855 : acres of which are in wheat, 713£ in oats, 36£ in barley, 420-i in potatoes, 109| in maize, 1 in rye, 4£ in peas or beans, in turnips or rape, in mangold, beet, carrots, parsnips, or onions, 315£ in garden and orchard, £ acre in tobacco, and the remainder in sown grasses or other crops. Of last year’s crops there was remaining on hand when the form was filled up but 93 bushels of oats. The traffic returns on the New Plymouth railway for the four weeks ending 4th February showed revenue £1,099 5s Id. The revenue for the corresponding four weeks of last year was £6BB Is. On Wednesday, the 12th April, an exhibition of farm produce will be held at Inglewood under the auspices of the Moa Farmers’ Olub. Germany is overrun with tramps and beggars—an unfailing sign of national distress.
