This Afternoon .
English Cricketers in Victoria. Melbourne, 11th, —The return match between Shaw’s All England Eleven and the Combined Australian team was resumed to-day. The Englishmen continued their first innings, which closed for a total of 809, The remainder of the scores were:—Emmett, c, 37; Shaw, c, 3; Peate, c, 15; Pilling, not out, 7; extras, 16. The Australians went in for their first innings, and when stumps were drawn for the day had put together 228 runs for the loss of only five wickets.
CZAR CENSURING a GENERAL. St. Petersburg, 11th.—It has transpired that at an audience which General Skobeloff had of the Czar yesterday, his Majesty upbraided the General for his speech to Servian students at Paris, and stated that such utterances would cause Russia to be derided and hated by other nations, and further have the effect of placing her in'an isolated position in Europe.
