Scarlet Fever Outbreak. Auckland, 14th.—Scarlet fever lias broken out in Parnell. Two deaths have already occurred. The Health Officer stated that bad drainage and defective water supply are the cause.
Ministerial. Wellington.—The Postmaster General has loft Wellington for his station at (Jastlepoint. The Colonial Treasurer goes South in a day or two. ■ The Premier is inspecting public works in Auckland province. Action against the Governor. Mr Hunt, late Chief Secretary for Samoa, lias instituted proceedings in the Supreme Court, at Wellington, to recover £BOOO damages from his Excellency Sir Arthur Gordon, the High Commissioner of the Western Pacific, for alleged assault and false imprisonment. Mr E. Shaw has been retained as counsel for Mr Hunt, and the Crown Solicitor will act for his Excellency. Evidence of Debt. Christchurch.—Mr Beetham, the Resident Magistrate, ruled to-day that an entry in a book was not sufficient to constitute proof of a debt, unless supported by some outside evidence.
