THE SLAVE TRADE.

Captain Brownrigg of Her Majesty’s ship London attacked a slave dhow near Zanzibar and was beaten off and killed. He had ten men with him; they were in a steam pinnace. Since the London was commissioned she has liberated over 500 slaves and destroyed 2500 tons of dhow shipping. Captain Brownrigg was highly respected, and, owing to his cautions manner of procedure, his captures were usually made with scarcely any bloodshed.
