The following have been elected members of the Norraanby School Committee, for the year 1882:—Charles Qnin, Francis Sisley, Felix Hunger, W. Gibson, W. Rowe, R. Eagles, CCasey. Mr Quin was elected chairman. The improved shelter and landing facilities provided by the breakwater at Oamaru has induced the N.Z, Shipping Company to offer to lay on three vessels for regular direct trade between London and that port. Freights and insurance charges are to be the same as now charged for Lyttelton and Port Chalmers. A Life Boat Lodge of Good Templars sin operation at Timaru. During last quarter eighty candidates were initiated. Freight from Wellington to Foxton by the Jane Douglas has been reduced to 12s 6d per ton. In reply to question, Mr Twopeny stated that without wishing to express any opinion on the question, reasons connected with the management rendered it quite impossible for the promoters to have the Christchurch Exhition open on Sundays.
A resident of Martou has been fined 10s for carrying a parcel of dynamite in the railway train.
