The Mail has over 90 subscribers between Whemialcura and Waitotara. BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Friday. The annual meeting of householders for the purpose of electing a School Com-

mittee for the coming year was held in the School-room on Wednesday ; Mr Fookes in the chair.

Mr Bridge, chairman of the late committee, read the annual report, which was duly adopted. The following were then nominated as members of committee : —Messrs Mason, Hair, Bridge, Jackson, J. M. Dickie, Duncan M’Donald, W. Davis, J. S. Muir, J Thurston, Caldwell, Read, Winchcombe, Morton and Lind. A poll was taken, and resulted in the election of Messrs Mason, Bridge, McDonald, Caldwell, Davis, Hair, and Jackson. Messrs W. Wilson and Steele acted as scrutineers.

There was rather a large attendance of householders at the meeting, showing that considerable interest is taken in schoel matters in this district. The pro ceedings on the whole were orderly. Some little discussion took place as to the definition of the term “ occupier of a house.” The chairman ruled that one person only could vote for the same house, quoting from the Education Act in support of same. A protest was, however, lodged against this ruling, three persons wishing to vote as occupiers of the same house.

The new committee met after the annual meeting, and elected Mr Cf. S. Bridge chairman

The monthly sitting of the R.M. Court was held on Monday last. There were few cases however, chiefly Road Board defaulters, against whom judgment was obtained in each case.
