PATEA VOLUNTEERS.

The monthly' company parade of the Patea Rifle Volunteers was held last evening, there being a fair, muster. Hie company were put through the manual and platoon exercises,* after which the names of those; willing sto take .part, in the review at Wanganui at Easier wore banded in. Twenty -(exclusive! of the band) signified their willingness to go, and it is expected that about twenty more.will be able to get away. The following Match' Committee was then elected:—Lieutenant King; ColorSergeant J. 1 KUching, Sergeants T. Kells and Carey, and Corpl. H. Chadwicki * The Committee met after parade, to arrange the conditions under which Mr Christie’s medal should be ,fired for. It was resolved that there be eight competitions, each competition to take place quarterly. The first, third, fifth, and seventh competitions at two, three, and four hundred yards ; the second, fourth, sixth, and eighth, at three, five, and six hundred yards. The three highest scores of each competitor to he taken in each set of ranges. Competitors will therefore require to fire in at least three out of the four competitions in each set. Regulation targets. Volunteers are reminded .that they are not allowed to fife at any time, unless there is an officer or non-commis-sioned officer present' or unless they have obtained permission from the captain. - \ \ After adding the handicaps for next competition and . points allowed for attendance at drill, the following is the order in which the competitors stand for the medal’; given by ' the. officers- of the Patea Rifles : —Private H. Bayliss 248, Private J. McCarty 245, Scrgt. Harden 241, Sergt. Powell 240, Corpl. H. Chadwick 236, Color-Sergt. J. Kitching 234. The last ; competition takes place on the first Saturday in next month, and a - close finish is expected. The next parade will, bo held on Tuesday evening, on the Cricket Ground, when there will be a torchlight procession.
