Mr Whagstaff, who has taken Mr Caverbill’s flax mill at Opunaki, is getting machinery for running a flour mill at the same place. He has been in the flax industry many years at Nelson. Tenders are called for earthwork contract No. 8 on the Patea-Manutahi railway section. Captain Odgers has returned from a trip to Wellington, looking all the better for his fortnight’s holiday. The list of officiating Ministers under the Marriage Act, gazetted in Notice No. I, comprises : 299 Church of England, 83 Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, 75 Roman Catholic, 46 Presbyterian Church of Otago and Southland, 94 Wesleyan Methodist Society, 8 Congregational Independents, 11 Baptists, 18 Primitive Methodist Connexion, 11 United Methodist Free Church, 9 Lutheran Church, 6 Hebrew Congregation, 1 Church of Christ, 1 Bible Christian. Total 592 Ministers. Others have yet to be gazetted. Another Royal Commission is to be appointed to investigate long-standing Volunteer claims. It will consist of three members—Mr Henry Bunny, late M.H.R. for Wairarapa; Mr James Fulton, M.H.R. for Taieri; and Mr Thomas Mackay.
