RABBITS IN OTAGO.

The Oainaru Times has the following : “ Mr W. J. Inglis, who has been for many years connected with the meat-preserving works at Kakanui, is about to proceed South to take charge of the Company’s works at Woodlands and Winton, The operations at these works are mainly confined to the preserving of rabbits for export . Besides affording a means of earning a livelihood to many, the export of rabbits by the Company should give an impetus to the efforts for their destruction. We understand that many thousands of cases of preserved rabbits have already been exported. In this respect, we regretfully believe, the works at Kakanui will shortly be able to find employment, for it is said that rabbits arc coming over the Kakanui ranges in battalions, and in a short time are expected to reach the borders of cultivated ground. Whether they will be able to make any advance in the, face of the opposition they will undoubtedly meet with, is a question that has yet to be answered. ”
