WAVERLEY.

The Mail has over 90 subscribers between Whenuakura and Waitotara. BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Saturday. The annual meeting of the Waverley Institute, called for 26th instant, lapsed for want of a quorum. It is a pity to see such little interest taken in the Library. Last year the committee canvassed the district, and were so far successful that they were enabled to send to England for a supply of books. If sufficient support were given, it was the intention of the committee to send for a further supply. It seems, however, the idea will have to be given up. A meeting of the Cemetery trustees was held on Thursday evening to consider what steps should be taken towards improving and laying off the Cemetery. It was decided to at once employ a surveyor to lay it off, and make a plan for approval. I am informed there is a considerable sum available, so that the trustees should be enabled to have some ornamental work done. A telegram has been received from Mr Bryce in answer to the petition re road to Railway Station, stating that the Government have authorised the expenditure of £l5O on same. I suppose, therefore, work will be at once commenced in that quarter. The Town Board have decided to at once call for tenders for footpaths, so that there ia yet a chance of their being formed before the coming winter. The levels have been taken out and the preliminaries all arranged.
