This Afternoon . PATEA WESLEYAN CIRCUIT. (From a Private Correspondent). Christchurch, this day.—The state of Patea Circuit was considered this morning. Several members objected to a grant to Patea parsonage on the ground that a former grant had been given. After hearing the statement of the district representatives and a telegram rom the Circuit Steward, the sum of £4O was voted for Patea parsonage ; £4O for furniture; also £2O towards the second minister’s stipend. Opunaki is entered on the Conference minutes as a Home Mission station under the charge of the Rev. Mr Ensor.
Fan-Tan. Wellington.—The Governor has declined to remit the fine imposed on Chinamen for playing fan-tan as a game prohibited under the new Act. Yield of Gold. Greymouth.—The month’s gold shipped per steamer Alhambra to-day from this port was 14,282 ounces, one of the largest shipments sent for a long time.
