HARVEST at SOUTH RAKAIA.

The Canterbury Times says harvest operations may now be said to be in full swing, the late hot and dry weather having caused the crops to ripen very speedily. Although there are but few wheat crops towards the hills fit to cut, yet towards the beach the wheat-cutting has begun, and the harvesting of oats and barley is general throughout the district. The effect of the recent drought has been felt most by the late crops of oats and barley, some of which have suffered severely, but the wheat on the whole has stood the severe test surprisingly well. Near the hills there are some really magnificent crops. On the whole, it is expected that the average of the wheat will be little, if anything, short of last year’s yield.
