Patea y. Hawera return match was played on Saturday, at Hawera, with the surprising result that Patea beat’ the strong team for the first time in about six years. The weather was wet and stormy in the forenoon, but towards noon the rain cleared, and the teams decided to play. The afternoon continued stormy, the ground being much exposed to the high wind, but hardly any rain fell. Mr Jacob captained the Patea team with much skill, and the fielding was distinctly better than usual, Mr Rose being complimented on his smartness at long-field-off. The Patea bowling of Mr Jacob and Mr Fraser was steady and good. Mr F, Horner and Mr Fraser made good scores in the first innings, Mr Tennent and Mr Jacomb doing fairly in the second. The Hawera team was captained by Mr Eiddiford, who is always keen and active, and Mr Moore, a new member, fielded well. The match was decided on the first innings. Scores :
