health officers have ordered the Ado-
laide mails to be exposed in an open boat for twenty-four hours before being landed, and the cargo for forty-eight hours.
High Dividend. Sydney, 20th. The Commercial Bank of Sydney pays a dividend for the past half, year at the rate of 25 per cent per annum, and carries £IO,OOO to the reserve. Peace Treaty. London, 19th,—Further intelligence to hand regarding the peace settlement arrived at between Chili and Bolivia, announces that the treaty provides for the cession to Chili of a strip of Bolivian territory lying between the Andes and the coast; bounded on the north and south by the Peruvian and Chilian frontiers. Fighting in South Africa. Intelligence received from the Cape states that fighting commenced between two tribes, Damararas and Mamaquas, both powerful tribes, in South Africa. The settlement made by Sir H. Robinson for the pacification of Basutoland has not resulted satisfactorily. The condition of affairs there is very unsettled, and it is feared hostilities may break out again.
