HAWERA LAND AND STOCK.
R. Hi Nolan & Co., Hawera, report ' General sales, on 17th December and 9th January have not been so well attended, ■presumably on account of being so near to holidays. : ; At pur land'sale on the 22nd December, there was a very -large attendance, but with the exception,! of Opunaki lots, the bidding was not- spirited. We quitted at Very satisfactory values,- 8 sections in Manaia, 9 in, Opunaki,, 3 in Hawera, and 101 acres in the Kaupokonui block; Our usual monthly slock sale was held ■onulhursday; last, i 282 head of cattle were yarded.* The day was extremely boisterous,i yet more than the quantity bf stock advertised' came.forward. "Bidders were in demand. Only two pens sold at the hammer, but with the exception of one •lot the balance were disposed of privately. Prices of cattle have receded from 5s to 7s 6d per head since our last;report; .- •' ( ; Sheepi,; 700 entered ; being rather mixed and quality not good, the enquiry was not brisk. - r r ' •" The racehorse "St Clair was passed in at £45. ; r " * sold 1 yearlings at £2 month old heifers, £3 2-year-old heifers, to. 18-month-pld mixed. £2 10s cows, £4 17s 6d ; store, bullocks, £sl2s Sheep—3oo Napier wethers, 8s 6d ; 100 merino mixed, 75.. : ?
