Mr Stewart; subject, “ Intellectual and Choice Culture.’’i Although not a very great success financially, the atten-i dance .being small, the lecture, was ( well rendered, while'some musical selections by the choir at intervals during the evening were performed very satisfactorily. After the lecture .a Imraovouq reading 'by Mr J. S. Thomson kept the audience in high good humor- during its deliyeiy; The Nye-Fisher troupe gave a performance ;in- the Town Hall on, Thursday. There was, however, [but a poor: house.: Miss Jenny Nye showed her usual ability in her various ■; parts,? and ■ Mri Fisheri w'as as amusing as ever. 1 ■ !:V - * -

The Government have, in answer to the petition forwarded to them, re repairing the station road, sent'the'Engineer to report bh same, and it is probable that an expenditure will at once be made oh this pieces of. road. This, is a highly necessary work, the large amount of .traffic; .cutting it.up,considerably, t; , s h j,. ....
