The Bank of Australasia has accepted a Wellington tender for the erection of new premises at Hawera. The price is said to be a little over £I2OO, and the work is to be completed in May. In the meantime the Bank will carry bn its business in part of Mr M. D. King’s new building.— Star. ■

A jQhristchurch merchant; recently went to Noumea to endeavour to make arrangements for supplying flour, to New Caledonia. A report is circulated that the firm’s tender for a supply: of 3750 tons of flour has been accepted.
At New Plymouth on Sunday afternoon a disgraceful scene occurred at the Recreation Grounds, in the shape of a free fight amongst some youngsters, and it was found necessary to send for the police. - - The railway passes just issued to the newly-elected : members of Parliament entitle them to travel over the railways of. New, South Wales and Victoria, aswell as of this Colony.
Several meetings have recently been held in the Canterbury country districts to promote the linseed industry.

Mysterious Explosion. London, 16th.—Further intelligence to hand regarding recent disaster on board H.M.S. Triumph at Coquimbo, states that the same was caused by an explosion of dry phosphate of yttria. London Markets. Adelaide flour ex warehouse, to 4 Is. Australian tallow—Best beef, 435; best mutton to 47s 6d.
SULTAN ASSERTING RIGHTS. London, 16tb.—Musurus Pasha, the Turkish ambassador, to-day formally presented to Earl Granville, foreign secretary, a circular note to the Powers, in which the Sultan sets forth that his rights in Egypt are founded upon an imperial firman, and that foreign nations are in no way entitled to .interfere in affairs of the Regency. The note, as already reported, further demands an explanation of the Anglo-French note guaranteeing the maintenance of the Khedive’s authority against any disorder that may at any time arise in Egypt. Commercial Treaty. Paris, 16th.—-Proposal emanating from Government was to-day submitted to the Chambers providing for the prolongation for a further period of one month of the Anglo-French commercial treaty, which otherwise expires on the Bth proximo. No decision has yet been arrived at by the Chambers in regard to the proposal.
