Reuters Despatches to Fateu Daily Mail This Day. Bank Dividends. Sydney, 17.—The City Bank pays a dividend of 10 per cent, for the past half-year. £SOOO is carried to the reserve. The Mercantile Bank declares a dividend of 9 per cent, for the past half-year, and carries forward £3037. Wesleyan Sufferers’ FundMelbourne, 16th.—At the Wesleyan conference held here a fund has been started in aid of the families of Wesleyan clergymen who were drowned at the wreck of the Tararua. The subscriptions already amount to £2,000. Death in Quarantine. Melbourne.—One of the Garonne’s passengers, named Morgan, died of small-pox at the quarantine station today. No fresh cases have been reported from the station. DIFFICULTIES in EGYPT. A PARLIAMENTARY EXPERIMENT. Cairo, 16 th.—The Egyptian Assembly of Notables, which opened its sittings last month has passed resolutions defining its own powers, virtually assuming control of the government of the Kingdom.
