Two sportsmen recently succeeded in hooking 18, trout out of the Selwyu.. Some of these were about 61b in weight, while the whole taking amounted to over 501b weight of fish, all of which caught with the artificial fly. The Feilding' people have testimonialised Mr Halcombe on his departure. Is there not a township called Halcombe? He ought to have a statute there, or rather a pedestal with an inscription : “ Si monum'entum quderis circumspice ,” which means (for the information of the ladies) “ If you want to see his monument, look about you.” It was once proposed to put up a tablet with the above inscription in the middle ot the Christchurch -to - Lyttelton tunnel, in honor of Mr Moorhouse. The objection at' last occurred to some one that the tunnel is pitch dark. A Local Industries Society is being formed at Masterton, Wairarapa.
