MR. R. E. McRAE'S REPORT.
At the Manaia sale yards on January 10th, 306 head o£ cattle, 865 sheep, besides 16,000 ft timber, and a large lot of posts and rails were offered. The demand for cattle has fallen off. Sheep were in demand, but buyers would not come up to vendors’ prices, which are extreme rates. 165 head of cattle were sold ; 351 sheep ; the whole of the timber ; and most of the fencing material. The following prices were realized :—Weaners, 27s 6d ; yearling heifers, 40s ; steers, 50i ; 2-year-old heifers, 60s; young cows, 67s 6d ; cows and calves, 75s to 90s; 1 choice lot of well-bred yearlings heifers, bred by H. S. Peacock, Esq., fetched in lots of five, from £2 12s 6d to £8 ss. Some wellbred cows, sold in two lots, fetched 65s and 95s respectively. Ewes, full-mouth, 7s 9d. Lambs, 7s 6d. Wethers, 9s was offered and declined. Timber, 9s per 100 feet. Posts, 51s 6d per 100. Rails, 40s per 100. Stock-yard posts, 3s lid and 4s. Stock-yard rails, 52s 6d to 655. Horses—none came forward, worth mentioning. Mr W. Cowern conducted the sale.
