This Afternoon. ENGLISH CRICKETERS—This Day. Dunedin,—The English Eleven commenced a three days’ match against the Dunedin Eighteen to-day. There was a strong northerly wind blowing. Goring won the toss, and sent the Dunedin team to the wickets. Peate and Midwinter opened the bowling, which was particularly bright. At 1.30 two wickets were down for 30 runs, Vernon being bowled for 13, and Crawshaw smartly taken at the wickets for 9. Dunedin, Later.—Harris made 11, including a fine hit for 4 from Midwinter. He was bowled by Peate, who is in fine form ; his analysis showing 18 overs, 15 maidens, and 3 wickets for 11 runs. At luncheon adjournment, the score stood at 42 for 3 wickets.
