Freeman R. Jackson’s Fortnightly Stock Report. Wanganui, 11th.—The sale at Hawera on the 6th was well attended. Bidding for cattle was dull, but brisk for sheep, all the latter being sold at the auction. A fair demand ruled for steers, but cows were unsaleable. The St Hill-street yards were well filled with sheep, which sold well. Store cattle were in limited numbers, all being sold at the quotations below. Beef was of fair quality, and met a low market. I quote beef at 15s the lOOibs ; mutton 2d per lb. Cattle. —At Hawera about 400 head were yarded—2 and 3-year-old steers, £3 10s to £4 10s ; large steers, nearly fat, £6 ; yearlings, £2 5s to £2 15s. At the yards to-day 156 head were sold—Fat bullocks, £6 5s to £6 10s ; 2-year-okl steers, £3 15s ; bullocks, £5 ; yearlings, £2 10s to £2 15s. Sheep. —At Hawera 2073 were sold— Best stores, mixed sexes, 9s 6d to 9s lid ; fat sheep, 10s. At St Hill-street 1968 were penned—Fat wethers, 10s 3d to 11s 6d ; ewes, 10s ; store ewes, 8s 3d to 8s 6d ; wethers and ewes, 8s 6d ; lambs in wool, good quality, 7s ; old ewes, 5s 9d. Horses. —ln this description of stock prices ruled lower than at my last sale. Exports.—4o cattle, 2260 sheep, and 58 horses.
