GREYMOUTH HARBOR WORKS.
The local journal says :—The training wall of the harbor works is making rapid progress, and singular to say, altbough the wall is wider and four feet higher than it is a short way back, the progress of the work is just as rapid as it has ever been. It appears as if the wall is less affected by the sea in deep water than in shallow, as it is some little time since what is commonly known as a “ broadening of the base ” has occurred. Another noticeable feature in connection with the works is the apparently total cessation of the work of reclamation. Formerly the south beach made up as the wall was run out, but now the wall has been advanced a considerable distance beyond the last shingle ridge, and at low water there is now no immediate sign of any shingle spit being gradually driven shorewards.
