KAKARAMEA.
(from our correspondent.)
A portion of the new railway fence near Mr Pearce’s farm is reported to be down ; whether through cattle or wind I am unable to state. It proves, however, that the settlers were somewhat justified in complaining of its instability. The School Committee met the other evening, and opened tenders. Mr A. Woods was the successful tenderer for the verandah, and Mr H. Wakeford for the fencing.
There was a good display of meat on Christmas Eve at our local butcheries ; Messrs Brodie and Ludlam both doing their utmost to set off their goods to advantage. A bullock weighing 1,365 fbs from Mr R. B. Pearce’s farm was for sale at Mr Brodie’s butchery, and was a really splendid specimen of sfock bread and reared in this district. Mr Brodie had also some of the finest lamb and mutton that I have seen.
