IPublic Announcements Patea Daily Mail. THE Mail will be published Daily at the beginning of the New Year. It will be delivered the same evening throughout the district t;y mounted messengers, running Northward to Hawera, Manaia, and Normanby, and Southward to Waverley, Sec. Price will be Id. The cost of delivering the Daily Mail throughout the district will be over £5 a week; and there being no margin of profit on the circulation of a penny paper, a small charge for delivery will be necessary. Subscribers who have paid in advance will be credited accoiding to amount paid. A considerable increase in circulation, especially in the country districts, is anticipated when the daily issue commences ; and Settlers are asked to support the Mail as the old established paper of the district, and a straightforward advocate of the interests of the greatest number. Additional machinery to quicken the speed of printing is being obtained, it being found impracticable with hand-power to run _off a large daily circulation for prompt delivery. The splendid machine on which the Mail is printed can be worked at a speed of 2,000 impressions per hour, equal to 1,000 com. pleted copies. It is curious to observe that the effect of competition has been to increase the circula* tion of the Mail, new subscribers ordering the paper without any soliciting. Mystery of Advertising. THE circulation of the Mail is over 520 copies each issue. It is the only paper supported extensively by Patea settlers. _ When Patea Advertisers settle their bills, let them take the Mail as a standard of value, and pay according to the number of genuine subscribers to each paper. Thus, if the Mail charges 3s. an inch for advertising among 520 subscribers, and another paper charges 3s. an inch for advertising among less than 100 subscribers, let the Advertisers insist on paying according to value received. At that rate the amount due for the lesser circulation would be about 7d. an inch, as compared with 3s. for the Mail. _ Why should Advertisers pay on any other principle than that of proportionate value received ? Why should public bodies spend rates in advertising on any other principle than that of proportionate value received ? Let the public see to this. Subscribers’ List open to inspection at the Mail office.
